Shadrick James Cox

Shadrick James Cox of Caro, age 63, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at McLaren Lapeer Region with his family by his side. Shad was born on December 1, 1960 in Lansing, the son of the late Udora Cox. He was born with a kind and gentle spirit, he lived a life full of joy, perseverance, and simple pleasures that brought him happiness every day. Shad attended Highland Pines School and worked for many years at Lapeer Teamwork, holding many different jobs. From a young age he participated in the Special Olympics, where he proudly competed and even represented the Michigan soccer team in the International Special Olympics. Shad always enjoyed having a Pepsi and would never turn down a double bacon cheeseburger with fries. He enjoyed bowling and spending time with his family and friends. Shad’s kind heart, patience, and loving nature left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Shad was like a son to Allen and Dolly Jones; a brother to their daughters, Janelle Jones and Jennifer & Beau Bachman; loving uncle to their children, Mia & Morgan Manolakoudis and Shelby & Ben Bachman. For over thirty years, Shad lived at the home of Bernie Hotchkiss with his two best friends, Gary and Len. Bernie looked after them and soon became a very good friend; the four of them created countless memories together, often relaxing side by side in their La-Z-Boys, enjoying the simple joys of friendship and companionship.

In keeping with Shad’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Michele Hile officiating. The family will be present to receive visitors from 11:00 a.m. until the time of his service.
