Sharon K. McLeod, age 52, Huron County Veterans Affairs Director died Thursday morning, August 7, at her home in Pinnebog while under hospice care.
She was born December 3, 1955 in Saginaw to Rosemarie (Krawczak) Manial and the late Charles L. Manial.
Sharon moved to Elkton with her family in 1967 and graduated from Laker High School in 1974. That same year she joined the US Army and was station in Seattle, WA. When she returned to Elkton in 1980, she worked as a teller at the Bay Port State Bank. On January 16, 1984, she took a position at the Huron County Clerks Office and in April of 1995, she was moved to CIS Dept in the County Building. In November of 2000, she became the director of CIS and took on a part time position with the Veterans Affairs office. January 1, 2007, she became the full time Veteran Affairs Officer. Sharon was very passionate about her job with the VA; she also coordinates the DAV Transportation Network and the Michigan Veteran's Trust Fund.
On November 27, 1987, she was united in marriage to Alex E. McLeod in Bad Axe, they made their home in Pinnebog.
She was a member of the Thumb Road Runners Q2 GWRRA and enjoyed reading, her pet birds, and dogs and knitting afghans.
Surviving are her husband, Alex; her son, Robert (Jennifer) Campbell of Harrison Twp.; her mother, Rosemarie Manial of Elkton; three brothers, Steve (Evelyn) Manial of Chesaning, Andy (Ann) Manial of Elkton and Mark (Wave) Manial of Sebewaing; her sister, Vicki (Dan) Thompson of Essexville and an aunt, Betty (Barny) Rohney of California.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, August 11, at the ELKTON MISSIONARY CHURCH at the north end of Elkton with burial and military honors 10 AM Tuesday in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI.
Friends and family may call from 2 to 9 PM Sunday and after 10 AM Monday. Memorials may be directed to Hospice or Veterans Trust Fund.
