Bad Axe

Sharon Kay Powell, 77, of Bad Axe went home to be with her heavenly Father on Friday, January 26, 2018 while under hospice care at Meadow Lane Assisted Living, with family by her side.

She was born January 7, 1941, in Bedford, Indiana the daughter of the late Herman W. and Luvina M. (Hampton) Box. Her family moved from Bedford, Indiana to Warren, Michigan where she graduated from Lincoln High School in 1959. She moved from Warren, eventually arriving in Deford, where she worked on the family farm, raised her children, and later pursued a vocation as a CNA until she retired.

Sharon was a kind spirit who was always looking for ways to help those around her. She felt called by God to make sure people knew they were thought about and loved even when she was struggling with her own health issues. She spent countless hours crocheting for those in need; whether it be hats for newborns, baby blankets, or lap blankets for those who were sick or in wheelchairs.  She also made handmade cards for all occasions that were delivered to those in hospitals, nursing homes, and in the military. In 2014, Hometown Hospice awarded Sharon a Certificate of Service Above and Beyond, for acts of giving and volunteering in her community. When she was not busy with her many projects, she especially loved spending time with her family, friends, her dog Sparkles and bird Sam.   She also enjoyed motorcycles, horror movies, and shopping.

Sharon is survived by her children, Teresa (Rob) Snider of Pigeon, Jeff Powell of Elkton, Barbara (Eddie) Young of Decker, Sandi Powell of Rochester Hills, and Larry (Lisa) Powell of Sterling Heights; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

She is preceded in death by a brother Reginald Box; husband Richard Powell; children Michael Flowers, Rich Powell, and Chad Powell; grandchildren Michael and Megan Flowers and Jackie McDonald.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff that provided exceptional care for Sharon at Meadow Lanes Assisted Living and Hometown Hospice.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Monday, January 29 th at Sons Life Missionary Church in Sebewaing with Rev. Brian Reinhardt officiating.  Burial will be in Kingston Cemetery.  Visitation will be 1-6 Sunday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton.
