Shelley Elizabeth (Schwaderer) Roland

Shelley Elizabeth (Schwaderer) Roland of Kingston, formerly of Ypsilanti, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born November 3, 1953, in Cass City, the daughter of the late William Bayne and Irene (Furlepa) Schwaderer.

Shelley was a graduate of Kingston High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Eastern Michigan University. She dedicated her life to music, and will be remembered as a passionate teacher, talented musician, and a skilled conductor. Her reputation as everyone’s favorite teacher at Marlette High School followed her throughout her career, which concluded at Clarkston Community Schools when she retired in 2016. In her retirement, she continued to be an active member in the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) by serving as a judge for School Solo and Ensemble and numerous School Festivals. She was also the conductor for Clarkston Community Band (CCB) and played clarinet in the Southeastern Michigan Wind Ensemble (SEMWE). Among her crowning achievements is conducting one of her bands at Carnegie Hall in 2015. Her love of music was infectious, and she was an inspiration to countless musicians, both young and old.

Shelley lived with passion and was deeply dedicated to her family, never missing a birthday (and chance to make sure we sing in the right key) for the large legacy she leaves behind. Her spirit lives on through her children and their spouses, Bayne & Sarah Roland, Megan & Greg Coyer, and Meredith & Tim Lyons; her precious grandchildren, Sawyer, Eliza, Gabriel (Emma), Madison, Isabel, Andie, Will, Lily, Lawson, and Sophie, as well as one great-grandchild on the way; her sister, Christina (Russ) Otterbine and niece Kathy (Jim) Desmaris; sister-in-law, Linda Schwaderer; nieces and nephews Stephanie, Amy (Thomas), Aaron (Julie), Adam (Shelley), and their families. In addition to her parents, Shelley was preceded in death by her brother, Bob Schwaderer and her nephew, Michael Branch.

Shelley’s Life Celebration will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at 1:00pm at Beagio’s in Kingston.
