Shirley L. Krueger

July 22, 1924 — May 2, 2013

Shirley L. Krueger, age 88 of Lake Twp. went home to be with her Lord, Thursday evening, May 2, at Huron Medical Center.

She was born July 22, 1924 in Detroit to the late Fritz and Gertrude (Lindenberg) Swanquist and graduated from Grosse Pointe High School in 1942.
On June 2, 1945, she was united in marriage to Gordon J. Krueger in Napoleon, OH. They lived in Port Huron until 1948 then moved to Detroit, where she worked at Prudential Life Insurance Company. In 1951, they moved to Roseville where she worked part time at Montgomery Wards in the gift wrapping department. Then in 1964, they moved to Caseville and opened “Krueger’s on the Bay”, dipping ice cream for 30 years. She closed the store in the mid-nineties, and continued living there.

Shirley loved her family and anyone who came into her life, always making sure they had something to eat. She was passionate about doing her Bible crossword puzzles, was a scrabble queen and enjoyed various card games. Shirley loved living on the bay, watching the sunset and taking pictures all of the time. She was a rubber band fanatic putting them on everything, but most of all she had a great sense of humor that kept us laughing til the end.
Shirley was a member of the Caseville Eagle auxiliary and the Do Nothing for Nobody Club.

Surviving are her son, Gordon (LeeAnn) Krueger, Jr of Caseville; her daughter, Susan (Ron) Badgerow of Pigeon; step-daughter, Diane (Phil) Tennant of Muskegon; eleven grandchildren, Ronald (Debbie) Tennant of Grand Rapids, Chris (Steve) Lohman of Cedar Springs, Gordie (Gina) Krueger of N.C., Kristin (Mark) Yash of Royal Oak, Matthew Krueger of Caseville, Samantha (Cody) Radabaugh of Battle Creek, Destiny (Paul) Carter of Oklahoma, Gareth Krueger II of Colorado, Ronald (Jenny) Badgerow III of Bay City, Ryan Badgerow of Pigeon, Jessica (Cal) VanValkenburg of Pinnebog; ten great-grandchildren, RJ, Kaylee Sue and Sara Tennant, Dean Radabaugh, Paulethan, John and Elijah Carter, Anastasia and Gabriella Krueger, Elijah Benjamin Badgerow; brother, Warren (Madge) Swanquist of Sand Pointe; many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband Gordon J. Krueger; son, Gareth “Gary” Krueger I; brothers, Robert Swanquist and Richard Swanquist; sisters, Doris Thienel, Pauline DuPont and June Rasmussen; brothers-in-law, Art Thienel, Bud DuPont, Charles Skidmore and James Rasmussen.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Bay Theatre is Caseville at 11 AM Saturday, May 11. After the service friends and family will meet at the Caseville Family Arena for food and fellowship.
