Obituary for Shirley May Simmet (née Bachman)
Shirley May Simmet (née Bachman), 80, of Sebewaing, passed away on March 24, 2025, in Bay City, Michigan. Born on September 16, 1944, to Philip and May Bachman, Shirley was a lifelong resident of Sebewaing, where she raised her family and made a lasting impact through her love, kindness, and devotion to others. In June 1962, Shirley married her high school sweetheart, James L. Simmet, at New Salem Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. Together, they enjoyed 62 years of marriage filled with cherished memories.
Shirley is survived by her husband, James; her son, David (Heather) of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan; and her three grandchildren, Zachary of Denver, Colorado, Sarah of Denver, Colorado, and Joshua of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan. She is also survived by her brother, Philip Bachman of Minneapolis, Minnesota, her sister-in-law, Sandra Reinhold of Bay City, Michigan, her sister-in-law, Sylvia Honey (Gene) of Wyandotte, Michigan along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who held a special place in her heart.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and May Bachman, her sister-in-law Sandy Bachman, and her son, Patrick Simmet. Shirley carried the loss of Patrick with strength, grace, and her unwavering faith in God.
A graduate of Sebewaing High School, Shirley's life was firmly rooted in her community. She was a dedicated Unionville-Sebewaing Area Schools bus driver. She loved her work and often reminisced about the students who rode her bus. She enjoyed reconnecting with former students who still remembered her as their bus driver, a testament to the impact she had on their lives.
Shirley was a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother. Her smile, infectious laugh and sense of humor touched so many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will take place at Thursday, April 3, 2025 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Sebewaing, Michigan. Visitation will begin at 10am until the time of service at 11am. Pastor Michael Boyer will officiate. Burial will take place privately at Silverlawn Cemetery. A luncheon will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the family (c/o James Simmet).
