Sonia Marie Pierce

Sonia Marie Pierce , age 85, of Sebewaing, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side.

Sonia was born in Detroit on December 30, 1937, to the late Herman and Sonia (Samonek) Thifault. She married Harry J. Pierce on May 29, 1955 in Caro then renewed their vows at St. Simon & Jude Catholic Church in Westland, Michigan. Sonia enjoyed staying at home taking care of her 4 children and then eventually taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, crocheting, baking, cooking and doing ceramics. She was proud to have made over 150 hats for newborn babies born at local hospitals. She had fond memories of the huge parties given to her and Harry celebrating their 50 ^th and 60 ^th wedding anniversaries.

Sonia is survived by her husband, Harry; her 4 children: Michael (Lynn Wisniewski) Pierce, Darlene (Rick) Bowman, Kelly L. (Debbie) Pierce and Geraldine (Bob Francis) McGee; sister, Patricia Tinskey; grandchildren: Michael, Jr. (Christine) Pierce, Erica C. (Thomas) Plummer, Jessica M. (Christopher Whitson) Bowman, Jacob R. (Candice) Bowman, Kelly L., Jr. (Rebecca) Pierce, Michelle R. Smith, Krystan I. Foreman and Hillary Howard; 21 great grandchildren; best friend, Debbie (Lee J. Kitchen) Strieter; and nieces and nephews.

Sonia is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Helene Snyder; and brother-in-law, Jerry Tinskey.

Visitation and service will be Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Juengel-Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing. Visitation will begin at 1pm until the time of service at 4pm. Pastor Brian Reinhardt will be officiating.

Memorial donations may be given to the A.S.P.C.A. (She loved animals.)
