Sophia Burzyck age 96 long time Elkton resident passed away Wednesday morning, December 14, at Huron Medical Center, Bad Axe.
She was born August 4, 1915 in Detroit to the late John and Waltreia (Marx) Stefanski. In 1920, at the age of 5, she moved with her family to a farm at the north limits of Elkton. Sophia graduated from Elkton High School in 1931. On June 24, 1944, she was united to Leo J. Burzyck at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. They had a farm on Richardson Road where they raised their family. Leo died in June of 1967.
Sophia was a very dedicated member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening both flowers and vegetables, canning, reading and word puzzles.
Surviving are five children, Leo (Lucy) Burzyck Jr. of Armada, Ed (LaDonna) Burzyck of Clio, Barb McIntosh of Bad Axe, Carolyn (Robert) McKinnon of Essexville and Marty (Deb) Burzyck of Elkton, twelve grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was a grandson, Tony Mullins, son-in-law, Don McIntosh and her brother, John Stefanski.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, December 16, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Pigeon. Rev. Fr. John Weis, pastor will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 5 to 8 PM Thursday and 9:30 to 10:30 AM Friday.
