Stanley Neal Black, age 67 years, of Wellston, passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at his residence. He was born on May 21, 1939 in Unionville to the late Claude & Eithyl (Masters) Black. Stanley was a 1957 graduate of Unionville High School. He then served in the U.S. Army. Stanley married the former Sylvia (Scharf) LaPratt on February 29, 1964 in Unionville. He was employed as a supervisor for Consumers Power, retiring in 1994. He then took a job in Alpena at Thunder Bay Power & Lights, retiring a second time in 2001. In addition to being a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Stanley was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and tinkering with his tractors. He and his wife Sylvia enjoyed traveling whenever possible. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; his children, Steven (Suzan) LaPratt of St. Johnston, New York, Sheryl (Harry) Wilson of Twin Lake and Russell (Kelly) LaPratt of Alpena; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren with two more on the way; one brother Charles (Janet) Black of Crystal Lake, Illinois; one sister; Janet Dixon of Bay City; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at the Colling Nazarene Church on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jerry Wallace officiating. Burial will be at Columbia Township Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Collon Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Stanley Neal Black family discretionary fund, c/o Sylvia Black.
