Steven N. Holik of Petoskey, formerly of Caro, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Blissful Home Care & Cottage in Petoskey, surrounded by his loving family. He was 73 years old. Steve was born February 12, 1951, in Cass City, the son of the late Lyle H. & Elizabeth (Miller) Holik. He grew up in Caro and graduated from Caro High School with the class of 1971. While in high school, he worked for Hills Orchard in Caro. Following graduation, he took a position with Henry Jaster Construction in Caro before joining the Tuscola County Road Commission in 1979 in a career that spanned more than 35 years, retiring as a night foreman. Steve knew every road in Tuscola County and found great joy in finding treasures on the side of the road while driving his grader. He was also able to find unlikely purpose in objects others would discard. Said differently, he had a lot of junk that he was going to use for something someday. He also spent many years pouring concrete as a side job to keep him occupied. He was united in marriage to Carla Cosgrove in 1979, and the couple was looking forward to celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary later this year. Steve centered his life around family and never missed any of his children’s or grandchildren’s sporting events. He spent many years as the assistant coach for the Caro Swim Club and was happy to drive all around the state for wherever a swim meet could be held. His best days were spent in Petoskey, snowmobiling, or on the lake, riding his jet ski or driving family and friends on his pontoon. Steve never met a stranger that he couldn’t charm with a smile and one-liner, or conversation about practically any topic. He was quick to open his home for his granddaughters’ softball tournaments in Petoskey or for the annual crab boil that he spent the year looking forward to. Steve’s amicable nature, quick wit, and gentle spirit will be missed by family and friends alike.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Carla Holik of Petoskey; two daughters and their husbands, Ann & Mike Osborn of Caro, Tina & Nathan Miltz of Black River; five grandchildren, Brooklyn, Kaitlyn, Ashlyn, Zakk, and Amelia; three siblings and their spouses, Gary & Kathy Holik, Beth & Robert Skinner, Randy & Ellen Holik, all of Caro; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Caro Assembly of God with Rev. David Deitzel officiating. Steve’s family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to Blissful Home Care & Cottage, 1 Hiland Drive, Petoskey, MI 49770.
