Steven “Steve” Michael Heilig, 62, of Pigeon passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at his home in Pigeon. Steve was born in Bad Axe, Michigan, on April 28, 1963, to the late Gerald and Francis (Kesterke) Heilig and was a 1981 graduate of Lakers High School. He spent over twenty years working for Huron Casting Inc, then retired as a plumber from Shetler’s Plumbing and Heating in June 2025. In his free time, Steve enjoyed the simple things in life, like time spent in nature hunting and fishing, taking trips to the casino, and riding his motorcycle around the Thumb. He is remembered as being a laid back and easy-going man who lived a quiet life.
Steve is survived by children, Josh Heilig, Chris (Cassie) Heilig, and Erin (Patrick) Fritz; grandchildren, Kameron VanValkenburgh, Dallas Heilig, Leighton Fritz, and Madelyn Fritz; and brothers, Randy (Sue) Heilig and Tony (Deb) Heilig; as well as many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
In accordance with Steve’s wishes, cremation is to take place. The family will be gathering in private for a private celebration of life but asks that his friends and loved ones honor his memory by having a Busch “latte” in his name. Memorials may be made to the wishes of the family c/o Erin Fritz.
