Stewart Joe Wieland of Caro, age 80, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at his home with his loving family by his side to be with his Lord in Heaven. Stu was born November 14, 1941 in Highland Park, the son of the late Harold E. and Gladys I. (Pringle) Wieland. He graduated from Caro High School, Class of 1960, where he was very active in baseball, football, and track, and earned all-state honors in hurdles. Following that, he graduated from the Detroit Barber College. He barbered a short time at the Old Wenona Hotel in Bay City, where he met his future wife, Jeanne, for the first time while working there. Stu was drafted into the U.S. Army. While in the service, he married the love of his life, Jeanne Ann Freel, on November 28, 1964 in Whittemore. Stu was a Vietnam veteran and served his country with honor. Stu and his wife settled in Caro where he and his brother, Bruce, founded Wieland's Barber Shop in 1966. Stu enjoyed barbering for fifty-four years and made many friends during that time. He had a loyal following for his gift of gab (or to tell tall tales). He always said "what's said at the barber shop, stays at the barber shop." Stu was a lifetime member of the Caro Mt. Moriah Lodge #226, joining when he was in his early 20's, a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Caro V.F.W. Post #4164, and a member of the Caro United Methodist Church. He was a gifted artist and painted many paintings for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter. Stu most enjoyed spending time with his family whether it was camping, fishing, family picnics, or spending time with relatives and good friends. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Jeanne; two children and their spouses, Tracy & Mike Carpenter, Scott & Sarah Wieland; grandchildren, Stephanie & Joe Kennedy, Megan Wieland and her fianc, Josh Hansen, Mandy & Kodee Rabideau, and Nathan Wieland; great-granddaughter, Charlotte Jean Rabideau; and many nieces and nephews, In addition to his parents, Stu was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Wieland, Sr., and father- and mother-in-law, Floyd & Gladys Freel,. In keeping with Stu's wishes, cremation has taken place.
