Susan Spencer Page Clara

Susan Spencer Page Clara of Petoskey, age 72, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at her home. Susan was born July 18, 1951, the daughter of the late Elizabeth Spencer Page and Wendell Page, and grew up in East Lansing. She enjoyed summers in Northern Michigan at her family’s Bay View cottage, where she attended Club, sailed, swam, and made life-long friends.

She attended Central Michigan University and graduated in 1973. She later went on to get her Masters of Social Work from the University of Michigan. She had a long career as a social worker with Community Mental Health of Tuscola County, retiring in 2005. She continued her passion for social work after moving to Northern Michigan, working for North Country Community Mental Health.

A beautiful person with a feisty spirit, she was quick to laugh, loved doing crossword puzzles, gardening, skiing, photography, and reading. She volunteered and chaired many philanthropic organizations throughout the years including United Way, Manna, The Crop Walk, Crouse Chapel in Bay View, and Bay View Memorial Gardens. She was a naturally talented artist and had a flair for interior design.

Susan is survived by husband, Randy Clara of Petoskey; her children, Molly Hauxwell Currier (Craig) of Harbor Springs, Peter Hauxwell of Petoskey, and Paul Clara (Stephanie) of Alanson; her sister, Wendy Page-Echols (Will) of Vanderbilt; two nephews, Robin Page-Echols of Corvallis, Oregon and Ian Page-Echols of Seattle, Washington; her granddaughter, Avery Currier, of Harbor Springs; and great-nephew, Rowan Page-Echols of Corvallis, Oregon.

A small private service will be held for the family in the coming weeks. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on July 18, 2024, at Crouse Chapel on Bay View’s campus in Petoskey, Michigan, followed by the scattering of cremated remains at Bay View Memorial Gardens and a luncheon at The Bay View Inn.
