Suzanne Elizabeth Claerhout

Suzanne (Suzie) E. Claerhout, age 62, of Unionville passed away Sunday (Sep, 10, 2017) after a long battle with breast cancer.

Suzie was born August 15, 1955, in Bay City, daughter of the late Walter and Eva (Alice) Hoeh of Sebewaing.  She married Joseph M. Claerhout on Sep 28, 1974, in Sebewaing.

Surviving are her husband Joe Claerhout of Unionville; son, Bill Claerhout of Cass City, his wife, Amy, and their son Tate; a daughter Kristi Rieder of Macomb and her husband Nick; a son Tom Claerhout of Gagetown, his wife, Renea, and their son Colten; and a brother Randy Hoeh of Ohio.

Suzie graduated from Unionville-Sebewaing High School in 1973.  She worked at Independent Bank in Sebewaing for many years until having children in 1981 and assuming the responsibility of stay at home mom along with running many business ventures over the years.  She and Joe ran the family potato farm from 1980 until 2000.  They were also co-owners of Claerhout Greenhouse's in Sebewaing, along with Joe's brother Don and his wife Sheri from 1988 to 2000.  She and Joe then ventured into motorcycle sales with Claerhout Husqvarna from 1998 to 2005.  Finally and most memorable for the community, Joe and Suzie founded and ran the MPX racing motocross track in Sebewaing from 1999 until 2011.

She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing, serving on the financial board for many years and contributing many summers over the years volunteering as a Vacation Bible School instructor.  When Suzie was not busy taking care of the family and businesses, she could be found outside in gardening, playing with her grandchildren, going up north to the cabin, or taking care of her horses.  She also had an extensive antique collection from her mother that she loved to organize and hold sales in the summer.  She was an extremely caring woman, mother, and wife that will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm, Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home, Sebewaing.
