Sylvia Black

Sylvia Black, age 69 years, of Wellston passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2007 at Alpena General Hospital. The former Sylvia Scharf was born on February 22, 1938, the daughter of the late Harold and Hazel Scharf. Sylvia Scharf married H. Gordon La Pratt and he preceded her in death. She then married Stanley Black on February 29, 1964 in Unionville and he preceded her in death on April 18, 2007. She is survived by her children, Steven (Suzan) LaPratt of Ft. Johnston, New York, Sheryl (Harry) Wilson of Twin Lakes and Russell (Kelly) LaPratt of Alpena; nine grandchildren and eleven great- grandchildren; her siblings, Harold (Linda) Scharf, Jr. of Unionville and Gloria Rodriguez of Unionville; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one sister and brother-in-law, Cora and Clarence Hartman. Funeral services will be held at the Colling Church of the Nazarene on Monday, December 24, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jerry Wallace officiating. Burial will be at Columbia Township Cemetery, Unionville. There will be no visitation at the Collon Funeral Home, but the family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Sylvia Black family discretionary fund, c/o Russell LaPratt.
