Terrence "Terry" Shay of Caro, age 77, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at his home. Terry was born October 26, 1942 in Detroit, the son of the late James Patric and Helen Elizabeth (Askew) Shay and was a graduate of Mayville High School with the class of 1961. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he was stationed in Germany and honorably discharged in 1965. He was united in marriage with the former Virginia Cogan on September 9, 1967 at the Bridgeport Community Church, and she survives. Terry was employed as a truck driver for Mayville Molding until it closed and then worked at Brentwood Lanes in Caro until his retirement. Terry was an avid bowler and was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame in 2005. He was generous to a fault, sensitive, thoughtful, and always supportive of Virginia and her career. Terry enjoyed golfing in his younger years and remained an avid Detroit Tigers fan until the end. He had a great sense of humor and never missed an opportunity to pick up a new joke. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of fifty-three years, Virginia Shay of Caro; his daughter, Jennifer Lynn Aleksink (Perry Troy); his sons, Christopher Patrick Shay (Holly), and Matthew Alan Shay (Julia); eight grandchildren, Benjamin Perry Aleksink, Nathan Frederick Aleksink, Ashlye Maree Shay, Brodee Scott Shay, Landyn Christopher Shay, Makenna Daneen Shay, Davianna Elise Shay, and Olivia Grace Shay; four great-grandchildren with another due in March; and a sister, Maureen Fyock of Clio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Shay; and his mother- and father-in-law, Christopher "Ted" & Savilla (Irish) Cogan.
