Terry L. Van De Voort, 74, of Pigeon, died February 3, 2018 after several years of declining health surrounded by his loving wife and sisters-in-law at Meadow Lane Assisted Living in Bad Axe.
Terry was born January 4, 1944 in Detroit to the late Wilbert and Evelyn (Diefenbach) Van De Voort. He graduated from Pigeon High School in 1962. He married Donna M. Bannick on July 20, 1974 at St. John Lutheran Church in Kilmanagh. Terry had a 20 year (1962-1983) career in the U.S. Navy, serving on diesel and nuclear submarines, retiring as a chief warrant officer. He also worked at Commonweath Edison Nuclear Power Plant in Zion, IL until retiring in July 1998. Terry enjoyed golfing, hunting at his deer camp and fishing with his brothers.
He is survived by Donna, his loving wife of over 43 years; siblings Dale of Florida, Pat of Bay City and Sally (Jim) Fisher of Saginaw; sisters-in-law Karen Bannick, Diane (Gary) Brown, Gayle (Charlie) Forbing and Jean (Phil) Myers; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Keith and sister-in-law Barbara.
A celebration of his life will be at 1:00pm Wednesday, February 7 th at Champagne Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mark Melillo officiating. Burial will be in New Bay Port Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-7 Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Michigan Veteran’s Foundation.
