Theatta M. Picklo age 97, of Pigeon died Tuesday morning, July 8, at her home in Country Gardens, Pigeon.
She was born August 1, 1916 in Deckerville to the late Clyde and Frances (Hewett) Shupe.
Theatta was a 1932 graduate of Bad Axe High School and received her degree in teaching from Taylor University, Upland, Indiana in 1937. That fall she began her teaching career at Owendale High School. Nine years later she went to the Bad Axe High School where she taught for three years.
On January 26, 1946 she was united in marriage to Ray N. Picklo at the Colfax United Missionary Church. Theatta took time off from teaching to raise a family, then in 1961, she taught at the new Laker High School for 3 years before moving into the guidance counselor’s position, retiring in 1978.
She was a member of the Elkton Missionary Church and enjoyed raising roses and gardening. In her free time she would read, knit, play cards and dominoes.
Theata had a very strong faith and demonstrated this faith through service to her church and missions, and through her ongoing outreach to others in the community.
Surviving are three sons, Paul Picklo of Pigeon, Alan Picklo of Katy, TX and Terry (Laurie) Picklo of Magnolia, TX; her daughter, Sheila (Lowell) Gisel of Midland; 12 grandchildren, Kevin, Tricia, Lora, Nicholas, Nathaniel, Dan, Steve, Katie, Stephanie, Courtney, Tiffany and Whitney; 14 great grandchildren and her sister, Lovina Kimbel.
Preceding her in death was her husband Ray in 1988 and her son, James in 1979.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday at the Elkton Missionary Church with visitation from 3 to 8 PM Thursday and after 10 AM Friday at the church.
