Thelma Iv Roland

Thelma IV Roland of Cass City, age 92, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper in Saginaw, surrounded by the love of her family. Thelma was born May 14, 1931 in North Carolina, the daughter of the late Marion & Vista (O’Dell) Early. She was united in marriage with Mack Lawson Roland in 1949 and moved with him to the Detroit area shortly after. Thelma worked for the Ford Motor Company at the Wayne Assembly Plant for over twenty years, first as an assembler and later as an inspector, retiring in 1986. She embodied Southern hospitality and charm and had a smile that could brighten the darkest days. Thelma also had an unparalleled sense of style and elegance. She took great pride in her appearance, always impeccably dressed from head to toe, usually in her favorite color, pink. She was an avid bowler and fiercely competitive Rummy player. More recently, she enjoyed crafting and socializing with her many friends at Northwood Meadows in Cass City. She adored time spent with her family and always looked forward to the Christmas season, even though she preferred the Florida sun over the Michigan snow.

Thelma leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Gary Roland of Melbourne, Florida, Derek Roland and his wife, Jean, of Traverse City; a son-in-law, Jeff Hanson of Westland; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one brother, Norman Early and his wife, Carrie, of Florida; many nieces and nephews including a very special niece, Regina Austin of Garden City. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Mack, in 1997; son, Ronald Roland; daughter, Kim Hanson; five siblings, Estelle, Donald, Ervin Cornell, Geneva, and Everett Darwin.

In keeping with Thelma’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Salvation Army.
