Theodore H. Germain of Mayville, age 64, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at his home, following a lingering illness. He was born June 5, 1949 in Saginaw, the son of Russell J. Germain & Esther Scholl, and grew up in Millington. Following his graduation from Central Michigan University and service in the U.S. Army during the end of the Vietnam War, Ted began a career at Mayville Community Schools where he taught English. He was very active in his student's lives and school activities that included coaching football, teaching physical education and umpiring softball for M.A.S.A. games in the area. Ted was inducted in the M.A.S.A Hall of Fame in 1999. In November of 2013, he was also selected to be inducted into the Amateur Softball Association of America Hall of Fame, which will occur in November of 2014. Ted attended the Mayville United Methodist Church and was a member of the Mayville Lions Club. He was happily married for thirty-six years with Nancy, who survives him. They have always resided in Mayville. In addition to his parents and wife, Ted is survived by three children and their spouses, Vicki & Steven Higgins of Port Huron, Jeff Germain of Arvada, Colorado, Todd & Heather Germain of Fenton; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; four brothers and three sisters, Rusty, Tim and Tom Germain, David Scholl, Wendy Germain, Susie Germain, Lu Ann Norris and her husband, Craig, all living in Millington; his beloved Aunt Luella and Uncle Art Saeger; and many nieces and nephews. Ted was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Sidell. Funeral services will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the Mayville United Methodist Church, 601 East Ohmer Road, Mayville, MI 48744 with Rev. Mark Swanson officiating. Military Honors immediately follows, provided by the combined Mayville American Legion and the Vassar VFW Honor Guards and the U.S. Army. Burial will take place at a later date in the Millington Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, 2520 Elisha Ave., Zion, IL 60099.
