Theodore S. Leipprandt, 91, of Pigeon, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Country Gardens in Pigeon.
Ted was born September 17, 1933 in Bad Axe to the late E.T. and Lillian (Sturm) Leipprandt. Following graduation from Pigeon High School in 1951, he attended Michigan State University, graduating in 1955. There upon he entered the U.S. Army. He served two years active duty and four years in Reserves, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1961. While stationed in Georgia he met his wife, Margaret “Peg” Hall, and they were married December 14, 1956 in Columbus, Georgia.
Upon completion of his military obligation he returned home to begin a career in Agriculture. He worked two years as an Agricultural Agent in Macomb County, and thirty-six years at the Cooperative Elevator Co. in Pigeon, thirteen of those years as CEO. Upon retirement, he and Peg began Leipprandt Orchards and Cider Mill which served the surrounding community for 20 years.
Ted was a life member of the Methodist Church, serving in various roles. He was an Adult Sunday School teacher for many years and sang with the choir. He was a member of the Pigeon Rotary Club and served as President and District Governor. He was a past President of the Michigan Grain and Agri Dealers Association, and President of the Michigan 4-H Foundation. Ted was a Board member of DTE Energy for thirteen years.
Ted enjoyed hobbies of wood working, growing apples, gardening, golf, reading, writing poetry, letters, and cards. He especially enjoyed spending time with family.
Ted is survived by his wife of 68 years Peg; sons Jeffrey (Kimberly) of Pigeon, Joel (Melanie) of Reese, James (Kimberley) of Greer, South Carolina; daughter Jill (Scott) Lindenberg of Bellaire; 15 grandchildren: Joy (Stephan), Joel Jr. (Kelly), E. Troy (Caroline), Tyler (Rachel), Spencer (Jenna), Parker (Rachel), Alicia, Marshall (Christy), Lauren, Dajnae, Dawson, Zachary, Diamond, Rylan, and Destiny; 11 great-grandchildren: Jude, Rhiana, Calvin, Selah, Evan, Roman, Cooper, Violet, Locklin, Lily, and Cate; and sister-in-law Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Phyllis (Clarence) Gettel, Charles (Doris), and Bruce.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Tuesday, March 25th at Salem Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Sawicki officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Grand Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Noon to 6pm Sunday and 2-8pm Monday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel. There will also be an hour of visitation before the service in the church on Tuesday.
