Theresa M. Swanson

Theresa M. Swanson, age 93, of Pigeon, died Wednesday morning at Courtney Manor Bad Axe with children and granddaughter with her.
She was born April 17, 1919 at the family home on Stein Road near Pigeon to the late August and Regina (Reise) Schmidt and moved to the Detroit area in her youth.

On April 26, 1941, she was united in marriage to Karl R. Swanson at St Rita Catholic Church, Detroit, making their home in Detroit, moving to Redford Twp. a few years later.
Theresa was a homemaker for many years raising four children. She went to work for the Redford Union Schools and retired in 1979 with over 10 years of service. She was a great cook and baker, loved to work outside in garden and was a seamstress making her own clothes, drapes, etc. She also loved crocheting and enjoyed being with friends and family especially her grandchildren. They moved to Caseville after her husband retired, with their family spent most weekends at cottage. In the winter they traveled to Seminole, FL. Karl preceded her in death September 16, 2001.

Theresa was a member of St Roch Catholic Church and very devoted to her religion.
Surviving are her children, Carol (Ray) Mayra of Caseville, Susan (Lou) Nigro of Chesterfield Twp, Bill (Bonnie) Swanson of Pinckney and Bob Swanson of Ypsilanti; seven grandchildren, MaryAnn, David, Jim, Louis, Lisa, Brad and Brent and nine great grandchildren, Kevin, Sean, Arron, Megan, Joshua, Tyler, Jacob, Andrew and Anna.

Preceding her in death were three sisters; Mary Jaster, Martha Perman and Frances Michelson and her brothers Phil, Joe, Ferd, Ed and Peter Schmidt.

Burial has taken place next to her husband at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Cemetery, Pigeon.
