Theresia Zechmeister, age 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. She was born March 24, 1920 in Moson, Hungary, the daughter of the late Istvan & Agnes Ihasz. Theresia was united in marriage with Steve Zechmeister on August 30, 1937 in Moson, Hungary. Following World War II, the family went to Germany for a brief period before coming to the United States with their two children on July 13, 1950, settling in Caro in 1955. Theresia was employed as a cook at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, retiring in 1976. For twenty-five years, Theresia was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro. Left to cherish her memory are two sons and their spouses, Matthew & Margie Zechmeister of Saginaw, Steve & Linda Zechmeister of Akron; four grandchildren and their spouses, Meredith Zechmeister of Saginaw, Michelle & Neal Gilbert of Grand Rapids, Dr. Matthew S. Zechmeister of Houston, Texas, Cheri & Bob Ahrens of Fairgrove; one great-grandson, Brett Ahrens & Terri Sayles of Fairgrove; one great-granddaughter, Brooke Mackenzie Gilbert of Grand Rapids; and one grandson-in-law, Erick Klammer of Saginaw. Theresias husband of over sixty-five years, Steve, passed away on July 14, 2003. In addition to her husband, Theresia was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Anne E. Klammer in 2003. The family wishes to thank Sandra Brill for her countless acts of kindness and love that allowed our mother and grandmother to stay in her home for so many years, and to extend our special thanks for the loving care given by the entire staff at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility over the past year.
