Thomas Ray Dillon

Surrounded by the love of his family, Thomas Ray Dillon passed away on June 11, 2020 after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. Tom was born November 9, 1943 in Caro, the son of the late William Patrick Dillon and Rosemary (Hyde) Dillon. Following his graduation from Caro High School in 1961, he attended Delta College the year that it opened. Tom married the love of his life, Roxie McDurmon, on September 28, 1963. Tom earned special permission to join the U of M's MSW program without his undergraduate degree. He completed his degree in twenty months while working full-time and putting his four girls through college. As Director of Huron, Lapeer and Tuscola County Departments of Health and Human Services, Tom dedicated his life to the vulnerable and at risk in his community for over thirty years. He also served as a board member of various organizations including the Janks Foundation, the Huron, Lapeer and Tuscola County Medical Care Facilities, Community Bank, Thumb Area Workforce Development, and Tuscola ISD. Tom was a lifelong learner and avid reader. He loved playing golf with his wife and was a faithful U of M football fan. His greatest legacy is his love story for his family. His faith in God had no bounds. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Roxan, and their children Danielle (John) Vacanti of Caro, Michelle (Ray) Seigo of Grand Ledge, Amy (Dave) Shanks of Lansing, and Carey Gray of Lansing; seven grandchildren including Thomas (Lindsay) Vacanti, Michael and Tim Vacanti, Isabella and Gabrielle Seigo, Sydney Shanks, and Dillon Gray; and many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by one brother, William P. Dillon, Jr. Due to an abundance of caution, the family is not planning a public visitation or service but will gather privately at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider contributions to the City Rescue Mission of Saginaw in memory of Tom.
