H.E. “Tony” Spencer, age 78, of Caseville, died Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon.

Tony was born October 19, 1931 in Flint to the late Harold W. and Julia (Palmer) Spencer. He graduated from Flint Central High School in 1949. He served in the US Coast Guard from 1952 to 1955. On June 28, 1952 he married Jane Benson at St. Paul Episcopal Church in Flint.

He was very proud of being part of the first graduating class of the University of Michigan Flint in 1959. In 1989 he retired from Commercial Contracting Corporation of Auburn Hills as the Secretary/Treasurer. Having vacationed for many years in Caseville, he moved here permanently in 1989. Tony was active in the community and church, he was the treasurer and administer of the St. John Episcopal Church, treasurer and junior warden of St. Phillip Episcopal Church in Rochester, member of the Trustees of Dioceses of Michigan, treasurer of the Caseville Community Christmas Fund, member of the Caseville Eagles, and a proud member of the Drum and Bugle Corps of Riverside.

Tony is survived by his wife of 57 years Jane; children Cindy (David) Tracey of LaConnor, Washington, Michael (Paula) of Lake Orion, Elizabeth Allen of Caseville and Don (Shelley) Spencer of St. Augustine, Florida; grandchildren Barb and Sean Sisler, Tim and Angie Tracey, Jessica and Jim Reynolds, Melanie and Eric Krebs, Michael Jr., Ana, and Luke Spencer and Spencer Allen; seven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law William (Delores Rosenberg) Benson and sister-in-law Barbara Benson.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Corrine Marie Papierski.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Episcopal Church on Sand Point, with Rt. Rev. S. Todd Ousley, Rev. Elsa Presentine and Rev. Nancy Breznau officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Caseville American Legion.

Visitation will be 2-7 Sunday and 2-8 Monday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville and one hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to either the St. John Church, Thumb Bread Basket, or Caseville Community Christmas Fund.
