Velma D. Hunt of Caro, age 86, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 7, 2013 at her home. She was born on March 25, 1926 in Portland, Indiana, the daughter of the late Walter and Virdie (Champ) Wright, coming to Caro around 1954. Velma taught at Caro High School for thirty-two years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of the M.E.A., the Caro United Methodist Church and the Caro United Methodist Women, and a former member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed reading and crafts. Velma is survived by one brother, Royce & Mary Ellen Wright of Portland, Indiana, and three nephews, Gregory & Tammy Wright, of Portland, Indiana, Ron Shoemaker of Portland, Indiana and Jay Royce & Sandy Wright of Reed City. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Clayton “Clay” Hunt on December 26, 2009; and three sisters, Dorothy Shock, Maxine Shoemaker and Sue Dixon. In keeping with Velmas wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Caro United Methodist Church with Rev. Gregg Mayberry officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Caro United Methodist Church.
