Velma E. McNaughton of Oak Beach died peacefully at home, Monday evening, July 29, surrounded by loved ones, shortly after celebrating her 95th birthday, WooHoo?
She was born July 10, 1918, in Highland Park to the late Fiore “Tony” and Caroline (Gerardo) Roman and grew up there.
On January 10, 1941, she was united in marriage to Curtis E. McNaughton in Highland Park where they also raised their family.
Velma was employed at Highland Park Public Schools as a paraprofessional for 13 years retiring in 1980. That same year, her husband, Curtis passed away, but she continued with their dream of moving to their newly renovated home near Oak Beach, where they had been coming since the 1950.
She was a member of the Huron Medical Center Auxiliary and Scheurer Hospital Auxiliary. Velma enjoyed reading, knitting and exercising.
Surviving are four children, James (Diane) McNaughton of Sun Lakes, AZ, Barbara (Al) Maxwell of Port Austin, Tom (Jeanie) McNaughton of Port Austin and Alice (John) Duva of Franklin, TN; 12 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and her sister, Shirley (Bob) Schlorff of Salt Lake City, UT.
Preceding her in death was a dear friend and companion, Laverne Chiotti in 2000 and her brother, Sheridan “Shay” Roman in 2011.
Memorial services will be conducted 4:00 PM Saturday August 3, at the Caseville Eagles Club, 7017 Park Street, Caseville.
