Velva B. Rhoten

Velva B. Rhoten of Vassar, age 85, passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community in Caro. Velva was born August 13, 1935 in Vassar, the daughter of the late Sheldon & Gladys (Prestage) Glynn, and graduated from Vassar High School with the class of 1953. Velva made a career as an accountant, spending most of that time with Super Foods/Nash Finch, retiring after more than forty years of service to the company. She was united in marriage with James William Rhoten on January 21, 1966, and he preceded her in death in 2015 after forty-nine years of marriage. Velva centered her life around family and was always active. She was an avid reader, square dancer, and golfer. Velva also enjoyed camping and playing Euchre. Left to cherish her memory are three daughters and their spouses, Devra & Hugh Fisher of Vassar, Diane & Mark Turner of Deltona, Florida, Dorene Kruchkow of Munger; four step-sons, Robert & Tina of Illinois, William of Florida, Michael of Florida, Patrick & Kim of Colorado; six grandchildren and their spouses, Christina & Dan, Jennifer & Grant, Heather & Greg, Nick & Brandy, Scott & Meghan, Crystal & Anibal; fifteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Clarence Glynn; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Velva was preceded in death by three stepchildren, James Rhoten, Jr., Diane Johnson, Wendy Dunlop; two sisters and their husbands, Alice & Robert Reil, Leola & David Dick; two brothers, Charles Glynn, Sheldon Glynn, Jr.; sister-in-law, Evelyn Glynn; and a son-in-law, Sam Kruchkow. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the charity of their choice in memory of Velva.
