Vera A. (Bushey) Marquis, age 91, of Chandler Twp. near Gotts Corner, died Friday morning, June 6, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility.
She was born January 12, 1912 at the home of her parents, the late William and Clara (Jacobs) O’Connor in Chandler Twp.
Mrs. Marquis graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1929 and attended County Normal to receive her teaching certificate. She continued her education at Central Michigan University where she received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
On November 19, 1932 she was united in marriage to Trefley Bushey at St. Felix Catholic Church, Pinnebog. He preceded her in death August 2, 1966.
She first taught in several rural schools and then at Elkton and Caseville retiring in 1973 after 36 years in education. After retiring, she began spending her winters in Florida. While there she met Ralph Marquis, they married June 19, 1982 also at St. Felix. They made their summer home in Chandler Twp. and continued wintering in Florida until their health prevented it. Ralph preceded her in death, November 17 of last year.
Vera was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church and Altar Society, Huron County Retired Teachers Assn; past member of the Worthy Study Club and life member and past Regent of the Daughters of Isabella, Bad Axe. She enjoyed travelin and sewing things for her grandchildren.
Surviving are two sons, Maurice (Catherine) Bushey and Louis (Yvonne) Bushey both of Caseville; twelve grand children, Mark, Maribeth, Jeff, T. L., Matthew, Linette, Janice, Eric, Renee, Jason, Brian and Mike; 18 great grandchildren and her sister, Dorothy Robins of Bradenton, FL.
Preceding her in death were a son, Dennis; a grandson, Todd; two brothers, Clayton and Bernard O’Connor and two sisters, Margaret Ebert and Marie Bray.
A funeral mass will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, June 9, at St. Felix Catholic Church, Pinnebog with burial in the church cemetery.
A parish scripture service will be conducted 7:00 PM Sunday an a Daughters of Isabella Rosary service at 8:30 PM Sunday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton where friends may call from 2 to 9 PM Sunday and at the church after 10 AM Monday.
Memorials may be given to the church or the heart association.
