Verna M. Eichler Wright

Verna M. Eichler Wright, 96 of Pigeon, passed away Monday, October 17, 2016 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe.

She was born in Pigeon on February 9, 1920 and was the daughter of Alfred and Greta Mae (Wurtz) Eichler. She was a 1937 Pigeon High School graduate.

On September 2, 1939, she and Nelmer W. Wright were united in marriage at Salem E.U.B. Church in Pigeon. At the time of Nelmer's death on February 1, 2011, they had been married more than 71 years.

Verna worked as a seamstress for Wright's Mens Wear, which she and Nelmer owned and operated. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and needlework. Cooking and baking for her family was how she showed her love for them.

Verna was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Pigeon.

She is survived by her children: Welton (Katherine) Wright of Lexington, Kentucky, Leil Faye (Leon) Elftman of Pinconning, Curtis (Kathy) Wright of Westland, Vivienne (Rex) Merriott of Lansing, and Valerie Haley (Ron) Hobson of Millington; 13 grandchildren: Kevin (Cheri) Wright, Lisa (Steve) Crum, Tracy (John) Walton, David (Tracey) Wright, Lee (Denyce) Elftman, Larry (Lisa) Elftman, Clint (Marina) Wright, Kerri (Nathan) Brooks, Jennifer (Tim) Clark, Matthew Rich, Gretchen (Todd) Roestel, Kristi (Greg) Hanby, and Meghann (Matt) Herford; 27 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Roland Alfred Eichler.

The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2016 at Salem United Methodist Church, Pigeon, with Rev. David Stewart, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Grandlawn Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Courtney Manor or Salem United Methodist Church.
