Verneda (Young) Divo age 83, of Pigeon died Wednesday afternoon, January 18, at Bi County Hospital in Warren.
She was born June 25, 1922 at the home of her parents, the late Victor and Ida (Wenzel) Young in Oliver Twp.
On November 3, 1945, she was united in marriage to John C. Divo in Kilmanagh. Shortly after their marriage they moved to the Detroit area. While raising her family, she began working at Fisher Body in Detroit in the sewing department making vinyl rooftops, retiring in the mid seventies for health reasons. After retiring they moved to Fraser. John preceded her in death June 12, 1994, she remained in Fraser until 2004, when she moved to Pigeon.
Verneda always enjoyed sewing, whether it be making clothes for the kids and grandkids or new drapes and curtains. She also liked crocheting, and gardening, raising beautiful flowers and prize vegetables.
She was a very active member of Bethany Baptist Church in Clinton Twp.
Surviving are three children, Jim (Beverly) Divo of Sterling Heights, Jean Haley of Warren and Robert (Chris) Deerpark, TX; seven grandchildren; brother, Kenneth (Ilene) Young of Elkton; sister, Helen (Robert) Mero of Medina; sister-in-law, Lena McGee and her little dog, Savannah. Preceding her in death were her great grandson, Jimmy; son-in-law, Gary Haley and two brothers, Bill and Eldon Young.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, January 21, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton. Rev. Steve DeKok, pastor of Bethany Baptist Church will officiate with burial in Colfax Twp. Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 PM on Friday and after 10:00 AM Saturday.
Memorials may be given to Bethany Baptist Church or the donor’s choice.
