Surrounded by the love and prayers of family and friends, Verneta C. Bouck of rural Pigeon, left us on Wednesday, October 9, at age 84, from complications following a stroke. She was born in Detroit to the late LeRoy and Zilliah Woolner.
Following graduation from Cooley High School, she worked in the office of Cadillac Motors, where she met the love of her life, Virgil Bouck. They were married February 19, 1949 at Hayes Methodist Church and moved to the family farm. The city girl grew to love the land and rural life.
Following a family trip to Disney World in 1988, she and Virgil drove to the Florida Keys. The short visit was the beginning of over 20 winters spent on Marathon Key enjoying the ocean view, fishing and welcoming family.
Verneta was a member of Hayes United Methodist Church serving in many capacities over the years. She was active in the Caseville Historical Society and enjoyed genealogy and reading.
Family was important to Verneta. In addition to Virgil, her husband of 64 years, she is survived by children; Marge Hall of Lansing, Joyce Miller of Caseville, David (Sue) Bouck of Pigeon and Dan (Carla) Bouck of Zionsville, Indiana, grandchildren; Fawn Eagen (John McPhail), Shannon (Heather) Eagen, Margaret (Jon) Manalo, Levi (Kristen) Zagorski, Travis (Kate) Zagorski, Kayci (Tony) Stanley, Jacob Bouck, Andrew, Jillian and Emily Bouck and great grandchildren; Abby, Emma and Colin Eagen, Eian and Calag Manalo, Stephen, Eva and Violet Zagorski and Morgan and Wyatt Zagorski ; her sister Doris Theismeyer and sister-in-law Helen Bouck.
Verneta was welcomed into heaven by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Steve Zagorski, her son-in-law, Gordon Miller, and her sister, Marion Ernst.
Visitation will be on Sunday, October 13 from 3:00 - 8:00 PM at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Caseville and on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church.
Funeral services will be on Monday, October 14th at 11:00 AM at the Hayes United Methodist Church with Pastor Brian Johnson officiating. Burial will be in a private family service in the Caseville Twp. Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Hayes United Methodist Church (7001 Filion Rd, Pigeon, MI 48755) or the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org), in honor of her and her daughter’s survival of breast cancer.
Special thanks to Scheurer Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital, Courtney Manor, Heartland Hospice and Pastor Brian for the care she was given.
“Rest in peace, your work is complete.”
