Vernetta M. King, 78, of Kinde, died Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Bronson Healthcare in Battle Creek.
Vernetta was born September 14, 1938 in Detroit to the late David and Marion (Clos) Gosselin. She graduated from Detroit’s Annunciation High School in 1956. On January 24, 1959 she married Joseph Dale King. He preceded her in death on October 14, 2015.
She worked at US Aviex in Niles and then retired from Zenith Data Systems in St. Joseph. In 1996 she moved from Buchanan to a log home she and her husband built near Oak Beach. She had been visiting Oak Beach since her own childhood when her family had a cottage there, and that tradition continues today as her children and grandchildren continue visiting, while also enjoying a few of her chocolate chip cookies. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish and the vice president of the Caseville Eagles Auxiliary 3690.
She is survived by her children Elizabeth (Gary) Faher of Sodus, Philip (Sherry), Kenneth (Carolyn), JoAnn (Tom) Pressey, and John (Michelle), all of Buchanan; grandchildren Kelly, Matthew, Nathan, Robert, Miranda, Kyle, Ryan, Lauren, Sarah, Travis, Nicole, and Renae; 14 great-grandchildren; and sisters Louise (Richard) McIlhargie of Caseville, Marion (Gerald) Yax of Kinde and Rita (Sam) Tibbits of Pinnebog. She was preceded in death by her brothers David and Joseph.
A funeral mass will be at 1:00PM Saturday, November 12th at St. Felix Catholic Church, Pinnebog, with Fr. Robert Pare presiding. Burial will be in St. Felix Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3-8pm Friday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville. There will be an Eagles Auxiliary Ritual at 5:00pm and a scripture service at 7:30pm Friday, both at the funeral home. She will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to mass in church on Saturday.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
