Veva VanGiesen, age 90, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2006 at the Cartwright House in Saginaw. Veva was born September 5, 1916 in Ellington Township on the family farm, the daughter of the late Ernest Nellie (Turner) Bradley, and was a lifelong Tuscola County resident. Veva graduated from Tuscola Normal School in 1935, and later earned her Bachelors degree in education from Central Michigan University. She was married to Rexford Robinson on May 27, 1937 in Caro. He died January of 1980. She then married Newton VanGiesen on November 15, 1980. Veva taught school at the Black County School in Gilford for several years and later was an elementary teacher at Schall School in Caro for a total of over 29 years, retiring in 1980. Veva was a member of the Caro United Methodist Church, a life member of the Kedron Chapter #33, O.E.S. and a member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel. Veva is survived by two daughters, one son and their spouses, Jackie Ronald Gibson of Lansing, Dale Elaine Robinson of Saginaw Township, Roberta “Bobbi” Jim Hooper of Houston, TX; three stepchildren, Bert VanGiesen of Troy, Kim McLott and Tom (Laura) VanGiesen all of Ferndale; fourteen grandchildren and step-grandchildren, twenty-three great and step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husbands, Veva was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers, Fae Clements, Joyce Robinson, Ted, E. Lorn and Max Bradley.
