Vida Jane Ewald

Vida Jane Ewald of Unionville, age 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at McLaren - Bay Region in Bay City, Vida was born November 14, 1934 in Unionville, the daughter of the late Edward and Molly (Spangler) Holzwart. Vida was united in marriage with Lawrence Ewald on July 10, 1965 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Unionville. Following fifty-four years of marriage, Larry preceded her in death on October 24, 2019. Vida enjoyed being part of the St. Peter Choir. The very essence of Vida's entire life was Matthew 25:31-46. She could hear anything no matter how quietly her grandchildren snuck in the house, tried opening the cookie jar, or making plans for the night - her granddaughters likened her hearing to super hero power. Vida lived her life with a generous heart, and she instilled that kindness into her granddaughters. She loved to cook and sing old gospel hymns. Vida collected blankets and pillows because someone some day might stop over and need one. She read her daily devotions and always wanted to make sure you did as well. Vida lived humbly, simply and good. She was loved and admired by so very many and will be missed tremendously. Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Randall (Forlinda Mahiney) Ewald of Clearwater, Florida, Brian (Elaine) Ewald of Caro; grandchildren, Mark, Margaret, Nicholas, Michael, Jared and Christa Ewald, Jessica and Danyel Jackson, Nicole (Ben) Prime; seven great-grandchildren, Alysha (Frank Phelps) Zimmerman, Tyler Zimmerman, Dalton Zimmerman, Raychel Prime, Brendan Prime, Anna Prime and Diego Lee; two great-great-grandchildren, Xavier and Dominick Phelps; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Holzwart; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Vida was preceded in death by two sons, Raymond Jackson and Brian Jackson; and the remainder of her siblings and their spouses, Adeline (Frank) Butler, Dorothy (Jack) McAlpine, Ardella (Richard) Berg, Florence (Lawrence) Heinitz, Doris (Lyle) Fritz, Dorlis (Dean) Nutt, and William Holzwart. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 24, 2020 at St. Peter Lutheran Church (Columbia Corners) with Rev. Bill Huether officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery (Columbia Corners).
