Violet J. Champagne age 91 of West Branch formerly of Pinnebog died Christmas morning, December 25, with her family at her bedside.
She was born March 23, 1920, at the home of her parents, the late John and Theresa Zimmer in Burt, Michigan.
On November 9, 1938, she was united in marriage to Hebert Champagne at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Pigeon.
She and Hebert purchased the grocery store in Pinnebog in 1950 operating the business until 1962 then they sold to Evert and Lucille Powers and moved to West Branch. Hebert preceded her in death July 12, 1985.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch and a former member of St. Felix Catholic Church and Altar Society.
Surviving are five daughters, Barbara (Whitey) Carpenter, Theresa Champagne, Lois (Ron) Bunting, Betty (Ruben) Garza and Dorothy (Tom) Goodsell; her daughter-in-law, Donna Champagne; twenty-two grandchildren; fifty-two great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were two children, Vincent and Fern; six brothers, Floyd “Jack”, Vern “Bill”, Roy, Mike, Ray “Pete”, Clarence and Walter Zimmer two sisters, Nora Reimann and Ada McArdle.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 12:00 noon Tuesday at St. Felix Catholic Church, Pinnebog where friends may call after 10:00 AM. Rev. Fr. Joseph Schabel will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.
