Violet Wells

Violet (Fitchett) Wells, age 74 of Fort Gratiot formerly of Bay Port/ Caseville died Thursday morning, May 5, at Wm. Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak.

She was born November 10, 1936 in Royal Oak to the late Nicholas and Margaret (Goodfellow) Fifas and moved to Colfax Twp. when she was three years old. She was a 1955 graduate of Elkton High School.

While working at her dad’s gas station at Wakefield Corner (Pinnebog Rd and M142), she met and fell in love with Virgil “Jim” Wells and were married March 3, 1956, at the Colfax United Missionary Parsonage. They moved to Detroit shortly after their marriage and returned to Huron County in 1970. Jim preceded her in death November 19, 1993.

Violet was employed at several adult foster care homes in Caseville and Pigeon and for a short time in Linwood.
She is a member of the Fair Haven Mennonite Church, was a foster grandmother at Cross Lutheran School for 10 years and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are five children, Tim (Menka) Wells and Steve (Julie) Wells both of Holland, Mike (Penny) Wells, Dave (Gidget) Wells and Kristina Ort all of Port Huron, 20 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; three brothers, Ron (Shirley) Fitchett of Fort Myers, FL, Dan (Sandy) Fitchett of Metamora and Dale Fitchett of Scottsdale, AZ; a sister, June (Jim) Schaffer of Filion and her sister-in-law, Bev Fitchett of Flat Rock.
Preceding her was a grandson, Brandon Wells; two brothers, Larry and Don Fitchett and a sister, Dorothy Schmitt.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, May 9, at Pigeon River Mennonite Church. Rev. Wayne Keim, pastor of Fair Haven Mennonite church will officiate with burial in Pigeon River Mennonite Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 PM Sunday, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton and at the church after 10:00AM Monday.
