Virginia B. Ackerman, 97, a lifelong Elkton resident, died Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Pigeon.

Virginia was born August 28, 1920 in Pigeon to the late Ernest and Anna (Jahr) Tschumi. She graduated from Elkton High School in 1937 and then attended Central Michigan University. She married George Ackerman on July 22, 1939 at her parent’s home in Elkton; he preceded her in death March 4, 2000.

She was an active longtime member of the Elkton United Methodist Church and a dedicated homemaker.

Surviving are her children Lois (Harvey) Furness of Charlevoix, Barbara (James) Carter of Wheaton, IL, Dale (Deborah) of Pigeon and Don (Lynette) of Lansing; grandchildren Tim, Chris, Paula, Jami, Amy, Faith, Lora, Joel, Markas and Lucinda; and great-grandchildren Rhianna, Helen, Will, Georgia, Jayden, Gabrielle, Sayge, Sawyer, Silas, Layne, Cullen and Keiran. She was preceded in death by her brother Paul Tschumi and grandson Kevin Furness.

A memorial service will be at 11:00am Saturday, December 9th at the Elkton United Methodist Church with Rev. Won D. Kim officiating. Visitation will be 3-7 Friday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Elkton.

Memorials may be made to Elkton United Methodist Church or Compassus Hospice.
