Virginia A. Cross, age 85, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2008 at St. Marys of Michigan Hospital in Saginaw, following a brief illness. Virginia was born July 13, 1922 in Caro, the daughter of the late Robert & Amelia Bertha (Peterhans) Lawrie and was a lifelong area resident. She was united in marriage to Keith Cross on July 3, 1939 in Caro, and he preceded her in death on April 23, 1978. Virginia was employed in the housekeeping department of the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility and the Caro Regional Center. She was also a crossing guard for Caro Community Schools. Virginia was active in the HDC Meal Site and many of its senior citizens activities. She was a member of the Polish American Club in Caro and a former member of the Caro Eagles Aerie 3587. Virginias greatest joy came from caring for her family and spending time with children. She also enjoyed crafts, sewing, quilting, playing bingo and Scrabble. Virginia is survived by seven children and their spouses, Roberta Lee & John Bender, Mary Jane & James Clinesmith, Barbara Sue & David Brown, all of Caro, Ruth Ellen Kirk of Fairgrove, Alan Richard & Deb Cross of Gagetown, Sherry Lynn & Matt Kolton of Port Huron and Edward Charles & Cheryl Cross of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; twenty-four grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a special friend and companion, Joe Banowski of Kingston and many nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by three children, Adelbert Keith Cross, Faith Ann Cross, and Beverly Jean Cross; son-in-law, Jerry (Guba) Kirk; brother and sisters, Charles Vernon Lawrie, Jenny June Fisher, Madeline Lorraine Hibbard and an infant sister.
