Virginia Strand

Virginia Strand, age 81 years, of Mertz Road, Caro, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at St. Marys of Michigan, Saginaw. She was born on July 4, 1925 in Royal Oak, Michigan, and moved to Caro as a child. The former Virginia Weber married LaVerne VanHorn and he preceded her in death in 1953. She then married William Strand on May 5, 1962 in Vanderbilt. He preceded her in death on March 30, 1994. For a period of time, she was employed at the Caro State Hospital, and spent all of her life as a mother and homemaker. Virginia collected teddy bears, and enjoyed gardening, decorating, reading, Bible study, patriotic memorabilia, as well as shopping at yard sales. She belonged to TOPPS and enjoyed the group. She is survived by her three children, Diane (Ronald) Hunter, Dennis (Donna) VanHorn and Timothy VanHorn all of Caro; nine grandchildren, Kimberly Hampel of Waterford, Eric Hampel of Caro, Aaron Hampel of Caro, Billy (Kristie) Hunter of Caro, Angela Johnson of Millington, Vincent (Teresa) VanHorn of Kingston, Mark Bastedo of Saginaw, Dena VanHorn of Corpus Christi, Texas, Erin VanHorn of Caro; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special family friends, Betsey Campbell and family. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Weber. The funeral service will be held at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Monday, January 29, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. with Chaplain Chuck Rondo officiating. Burial will be at Indianfields Township Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Collon Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
