Waldron A. “SIM” Knechtel, age 87, of Pigeon, formerly of Elkton, died Friday morning, January 10, at Scheurer Hospital.
He was born October 18, 1915, in Oliver Twp. to the late Solomon and Elizabeth (Schlotzhauser) Knechtel.
On January 14, 1939, he was united in marriage to Verdalee Bouck in Berne, IN.
After high school he took a job at the Elkton Co-op Creamery,in 1944 he started working at Michigan Milk Producers Association as a market rep. until retiring in 1980.
Waldron and his wife raised their four children and lived in the Elkton area most of their married life.
He was a member of the Elkton United Methodist Church, former member of the Elkton Civic Center
Board, Elkton Lions Club and served on the Elkton-Oliver Fire Dept for 20 years.
Surviving are his wife, Verdalee; one son, Robert (Diane) Knechtel of Scotch Plains, NJ; three daughters, Karen (Doug) Roth of Dryden, Darlene (Per) Wardhammer of Marysville and Beth (Kent) Tibbits of Pigeon. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Tammy, Debbie, Scott, Brad, Robert, Paul, Lance and Logan; and eleven great-grandchildren, James, John, Joey, Melissa, Becky, Maggie, Trent, Carly, Carson, and Christain. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Alvin, Simon, and Milton Knechtel; and three sisters, Ida Milholin, Melinda Lantz, and Leila Knechtel.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday January 13, at the Elkton United Methodist Church. Rev. Pete Crawford, pastor will officate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton.
Friends may call at Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 2 – 9 P.M. Sunday and at the church after 10 A.M. Monday.
Memorials may be given to the Elkton United Methodist Church or Huron Memorial Hospice.
