Wallace L. Northon of Unionville, age 77, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Covenant HealthCare - Cooper in Saginaw. Wally was born August 1, 1943 in Clare, the son of the late Otis & Rose (Gyurnek) Northon. He grew up in Clare and graduated high school there with the class of 1961. Wally was united in marriage with the former Wilma Kay Goodall on November 18, 1973 in Flint, and she preceded him in death on August 30, 2004. He spent nearly his entire career building homes, eventually owning and operating Northon & Sons Construction, retiring in 1993. Even in retirement, he remained connected to the profession for several years by working at King Lumber in Auburn. Wally was a devoted member of the Colling Church of the Nazarene and was nearly as faithful to his beloved Detroit Tigers. He enjoyed woodworking, NASCAR, tending to his extensive garden, and bowling in his younger years. He was happiest when surrounded by family and always made time for attending his grandchildren's activities. Left to cherish Wally's memory are six children and their spouses, Ed & Tammy Schmaltz, Dawn Schmaltz, Dan & Nancy Schmaltz, Michelle Trafas, Darrin & Tracy Northon, Kevin & Carlene Northon; daughter-in-law, Diane Schmaltz; seventeen grandchildren, Colton, Reid, Corinne, Leanna, Taylen, and Makenna Schmaltz, Seth Hornbacher and his wife, Melanie, Alexis Shepherd, Chris Harris, Sarah Harris, Tyler Trafas, Megan Northon, Brayden Scarlett, Tyler Scarlett, Ashley Northon Arnold, Alyssa Northon, and Samantha Northon; three great-grandchildren, Demi and Jaxen Burt, Felix Northon; one sister, Emily Northon; one brother and his wife, Fran & Pat Northon; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Wally was preceded in death by two children, James Schmaltz and Jason Northon. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at the Colling Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Karen Wolfe officiating. The family will be present to receive friends at the church on Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Inurnment will follow at a later time at Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro.
