Walter G. Rosenthal, age 95, of Pigeon died Wednesday, November 3, at Courtney Manor Bad Axe, Michigan under Hospice Care.
He was born January 16, 1915 in Akron, to the late August and Francis (Rothe) Rosenthal and moved with his family to a farm in Huron County in his youth.
On November 1, 1941, he was united in marriage to Milda E. Brenner. They lived and raised their children in Elkton and operated the Mobile Gas Station in Elkton until 1964 when he sold. He then opened Walt’s Garage on Barb Thompson Dr. retiring in 1978. But his passion remained farming. Millie preceded him in death July 1, 1976.
Walt was a US Army veteran and served in the European & African Theaters during World War II. He was past commander of Elkton VFW Post #6013, a former member of the Elkton Lions Club, Elkton Fire Department, and an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Elkton his entire life.
On June 14, 1980 he married Mildred (Heiman) Damm and made their home in Pigeon.
Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Mildred; three children, Larry Rosenthal, SuzAnne (John) Bivens of Elkton and Kim (Grace) Rosenthal of Bad Axe; two step daughters, Janet (Dennis) Henne of Bay Port and Jane (Cliff) Pobanz of Pigeon; step son-in-law, Charles Anderson of Bad Axe; eight grandchildren, Jeff and James Rosenthal, Trisha (Jason) Fitnich, Kristi (Chuck) Krohn, Melissa (Michael) Buggy, Daniel (Stacey) Bivens, Elijah and Joshua Rosenthal; seven step grandchildren, Tim Schafer, Michele (Jeff) Lauth, Shelly (Chris) Wurst, Jennifer (Rob) Kubacki, Scott (Vicky) Pobanz, Chad (Rhonda) Pobanz and Traci (Rich) Weisenbach; 14 Step great grandchildren; his brother, Martin (Jane) Rosenthal of Elkton and two sisters, Caroline Schuette of Pigeon and Sophie Van Hevel of Warren.
Preceding him in death were his step daughter, Jill Anderson; a grandson, Jeffrey Bivens; two brothers, Art and Joseph Rosenthal and three sisters, Elsie Kerr, Alvina Rosenthal Martha Swalwell Thayer.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday, November 7, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Elkton. Pastor Rodney Schwab will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton. Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 2 to 9 PM Saturday and at the church after 1 PM Sunday.
