Walter Gregory Szostak of Caro, age 66, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Parkview Randallia Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Walter was born July 1, 1957 in Cass City, the son of the late Walter and Eleanor (Bieszczak) Szostak. He graduated from Kingston High School and went on to study at University of Michigan, Flint campus, and later earned his MBA from Central Michigan University. Walter worked in finance for over forty years, retiring from Huntington Bank as the Market President in 2022. Beyond his professional achievements, Walter was a true beacon of community spirit. Always eager to give back, he actively engaged in various philanthropic endeavors, tirelessly working to enhance the well-being of those around him. Over the years he served many organizations including, but not limited to, The United Way of Bay County, Tuscola Behavioral Health Systems, Dow Bay Area Family YMCA, Tuscola Humane Society, Kantzler Foundation, and the Pardee Cancer Treatment Fund. Walter had an immense love for all animals, enjoyed aviation, and liked to watch racing. His intelligence, integrity, and unwavering commitment to excellence earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues, clients, and associates alike.
Walter leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Joshua (Mary) Male of Fort Wayne, Indiana; granddaughters, Emma and Bella Male; sisters, Theresa (Rodney) Smith of Cass City and Cathy Szostak of Kingston; nephew, Christopher (Lyndsay) Smith of Freeland; many friends and former colleagues.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro. Walter's family will be present to receive friends on Friday, January 19, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of his service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to Thumb Animal Shelter - 2260 S Elkton Rd, Elkton, MI 48731, or the American Cancer Society – Michigan.
