Wanda V. Leja

Wanda V. Leja of Millington, age 91, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Carey's Young at Heart AFC Home in Caro, following a brief illness. Wanda was born April 10, 1925 in Detroit, the daughter of the late Joseph and Stephanie Prabucki. She was a graduate of Kingston High School, and went to work for Ferrell Stamping in Mt. Pleasant during World War II before attending County Normal. Wanda taught school in Kingston until 1953 when she was united in marriage with Stanley Leja at St. Michael Catholic Church in Wilmot. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Detroit where she took a position with J. L. Hudson Company as a gift wrapper for over twenty-five years, retiring in 1994, and returning to this area. Wanda was a member of the Polish American Club in Caro and participated in events with County Normal Retirees. Wanda was an animal lover and enjoyed reading and taking care of her yard and flowers. Left to cherish her memory are one son and daughter-in-law, James & Karen Leja of Troy; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Michael; one brother and his wife, Mitchell & Eileen of Millington; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by one son, Wayne Leja in 1967; her husband, Sanley Leja in 1988; and two sisters, Irene Schwaderer and Cecelia Debovski. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the St. Christopher Parish, Sacred Heart Site in Caro with Rev. Jerzy Dobosz officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Michael Cemetery in Wilmot. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. with a procession following the visitation to St. Christopher Parish for the Funeral Mass.
