Willet Earl Oeschger

Mr. Willet Earl Oeschger , age 90, of Sebewaing went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 19, 2020.  He was born on October 24, 1930 in Kilmanagh, Michigan, the son of Wesley and Clara (Gettel) Oeschger.  Willet was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Allied Occupation of Germany.  After the army, he returned to his work on the family farm until 1979, was the broker and agent of USA Realty, and he became the Sebewaing Township Supervisor from 1980 until 2012.  Willet's many activities included attending prayer groups and bible studies, practicing and promoting healthy lifestyle and diet, collecting metals from the various 5-k road walks, visiting shut-ins and the sick, participating in the VFW, Farm Bureau, and (healthy) dinner groups and class lunches.   Willet served the Lord with thanksgiving, and always asked himself if what he was doing was pleasing to God.

He is survived by his children, John (Mandy) Oeschger, Amy (Paul) Skentzos, Heide (Rich) Lochbiler, Dean (Joannie) Easlick, Kristen (Ted) Skantze, Stephanie (Steve) Thompson, Kent (Jennifer) Easlick.  Grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Tobias, Nathanial, Asher, Immanuel, Yocheved, Israel, Jacob, Isaac Oeschger; Arianna Skentzos; Peter, Ella, Joshua Lochbiler; Julliet Easlick (Rob) Carrington and Naomi Jewel Carrington; Amanda (John) Hodge and Kailyn and Jaxon Hodge; Jason (Brandy) Skantze; Kristin, Rachael, Sarah, Zachary and Ian Thompson; Kara, Nichole (Jeremy) Thompson and Danielle Easlick, as well as many nephews and nieces.

Willet was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia (Kundinger) Easlick; parents, Wesley and Clara (Gettel) Oeschger; siblings, Edward Oeschger, Lucille Peacock, and Alice Leonard.

He gave this invocation to the House of Representatives of the State of Michigan in 1997.

Father God, we give You thanks this morning for these people who comprise the House of Representatives of the State of Michigan. They have been chosen to be leaders in this State.  So Lord, help us always to remember that in this role of leadership of the people of Michigan that we are also called to be servants.  I am reminded this morning of the scripture that says God blesses those who realize the need for him.  Lord, we need your wisdom and your guidance daily.  Lord, I ask that you would freely give your wisdom and guidance to these people today so that they can fulfill the role of leadership that you have called them to.  We know that we will have differences of opinion and that we might strong debates on various issues.  But, I pray that the desire of our hearts would be to do what is pleasing to You and beneficial to the people of this state.  So Lord, I ask for your blessing on this group of people.  Lord, I ask for your love, for your grace, your mercy, your peace, your wisdom, and your guidance to be with everyone here today.  I ask this all in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Due to Covid-19 rulings, a private graveside service will be held Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sebewaing, with Pastor Al Eastman from Assembly of God Church in Sebewaing officiating. A public celebration of Willets life will be planned for a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Bay Shore Camp or the Sebewaing Historical Society.
