William "Nick" Checkley

William “Nick” Checkley of Caro, age 59, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2025 with his family by his side. Nick was born November 19, 1965, to the late Linda Campbell and was lovingly raised by Curtis L. Campbell from a young age.

Nick graduated from Laker High School in 1983. He went on to obtain certificates in CAD, welding, and ultimately auto body repair, where his true love was. Nick welcomed his son Nicholas into the world in 1985 and his daughter Chelsea in 1988. He married the love of his life, Julie, in 2007.

Those who knew Nick knew he loved anything he could drive, especially fast with the windows down. He liked to paint, fix, and talk about cars. Nick loved his wife, grandchildren, and sweet dog, Milo. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone (if you could catch him wearing one). Nick loved camping and spending their summers at the campground making memories. Nick truly lived a life rich with adventures and stories; he spent the last few months of his life retelling them, reminiscing with family and friends.

Nick is survived by his wife, Julie Checkley; father, Curtis L. Campbell; children, Nicholas (Melissa) Checkley and Chelsea (Chuck) Corbishley; stepchildren, Pamela (Chad) Nagy and James Yax; brothers, Mike (Rana) Metz, Bill (Tonya) Smith, Curtis (Megan) Campbell II; grandchildren, Kemper, Ayden, Jackson, Ellasyn, Fisher, Hazel, Baker, Jayla, and Lexie; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, numerous cousins, and many lifelong friends.

Nick was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Campbell; grandparents, Clifford Checkley, Mary Lou Hendricks, and Wayne & Marjorie Campbell; uncle, Kim Campbell; aunt, Becky Miller; sister, Taffi Lin Metz, and her father, Michael Metz, Sr.

In keeping with Nick’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Life Celebration will be held at a later date.
