William Cockerill

Bill Cockerill, 74, passed away at his home on Thursday, August 10, 2006 with his family by his side. He was born March 25, 1932 in Carrollton, MI, the son of Francis M. Dorothy (Deplanty) Cockerill. Upon graduation from Caro High School in 1950, Bill joined the U.S. Navy, staring a twenty-seven year career with the military, retiring from the Air Force in 1977. After returning to Caro, he was employed with the Post Office for the next sixteen years, retiring in 1994. Bill enjoyed being with his family, playing golf as often as he could, working in his yard and sitting beside the pond he built behind his house. Bill was married to the former Margaret A. Mathews on February 2, 1951 in Caro. Surviving, besides his wife of fifty-five years, are five children and their spouses, James Kris Cockerill of Oak Park, IL, Barbara Richard Frank, RoxAnne Hiser, Diane Credeur, F. Mark Lisa Cockerill, all of Caro; eight grandchildren, Jason Smith, Jordan and Tyler Frank, Samuel and MacLain Credeur, Terran, A. Brett and Bailey Cockerill; his mother, Dorothy Cockerill of Caro; two sisters, Joanne Lenda of Caro, Nancy Robert Stuart of Clio and many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Francis M. Cockerill; three grandchildren, Shelby, Erica Morgan Hiser; two brothers and two sisters, James Thomas Cockerill, Sally OBrien and Mary Ray.
