William R. Colling

William R. Colling of Caro, age 83, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community in Caro. Bill was born April 13, 1933 at his family's home in Colling, the son of the late Leslie and Rose (Freeman) Colling. He was united in marriage with his high school sweetheart, the former Myrna Jo Kennedy, on November 2, 1951 at the Caro United Methodist Church in Caro. She preceded him in death on February 5, 1992. Bill began as a bagger at the Kroger store in Caro right after his high school graduation in 1951, and by 1985, he owned the business and renamed it Bill's Foodland. A community minded businessman, Bill was a member of the Caro Chamber of Commerce, Caro Lions Club, Caro United Methodist Church, and supported countless Caro events. Bill was happiest outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and collector of unique things. Left to cherish his memory are four children and their spouses, Tamara Jo Colling of Lansing, Timothy S. (Debra) Colling of Caro, Julie (Linden) Colling-DeMott of Mayville, Kathleen D. (Ken) Earl of Caro; five grandchildren, Lesley Colling, James Putnam, Caitlyn Colling, Trammell and Whitaker Earl; three great-grandchildren, Kayley, Isaac and Alyssa; daughter-in-law, Linda Colling of Cass City; and one sister, Shirley Ferris. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Randall W. Colling, in 2008; and four siblings, Dorothy Russell, Cortland, Keith and Donald Colling. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the Caro United Methodist Church with Rev. Jackie Roe officiating. Burial will follow at the Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Forget-Me-Nots of the Tuscola County Medical Care Community.
