William J. Dufty, age 53, of Lapeer, formerly of Caseville died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon June 12.
He was born August 14, 1950 in Pigeon to the late William and Marie (Miles) Dufty.
After high school he enlisted in the US Air Force for four years. He moved to Oregon after the service, where he worked at First Interstate Bank as the Facilities Manager.
On August 30, 1980, he was united in marriage to Judith V. Gallivan in Vancouver, Wash.
They returned to Michigan near Detroit in 1988 and he was employed at Manufacturers Bank until 1992 when it merged with Comerica. That year, he took the position of facilities manager at HoneyBaked Hams where he was currently employed. He and Judy moved to Lapeer in 1993.
Bill was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Davison and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed swimming, hunting, fishing and building snow caves in the winter.. He loved his family and knew the importance of life, giving over 10 gallons of blood through the Red Cross blood program.
Surviving are his wife, Judy; two children, Grace at college in Grand Rapids and Peter at home; two brothers, Dan (Roxanne) Dufty and Tim (Barb) Dufty both of Caseville; five sisters, Cindy (Fritz) Smith, D’Ann (Dick) McLean and LaDonna Dufty all of Caseville; Jan McCrimmon and Terese (Steve) Umphrey both of Cheboygan.
A funeral mass will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday, June 17, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Davison. Rev. Fr. Andrew Czajkowski, pastor will officiate with burial in the Caseville Twp. Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to his church, his son’s college fund or the Red Cross.
Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Caseville from 2 to 9 PM Wednesday and at the church after 10 AM Thursday.
